Programs & Fees
The Rocky Mountain Regional Dog Trainer Academy is available in 2 in-depth options:
- 6–month Dog Trainer Program (264 training hours – lecture and hands-on)
- 12–month Dog Trainer Program (528 training hours – lecture and hands-on)
The same information is taught in each of our program offerings depending on the learner’s preferred pace and hands-on time.
We offer ongoing support for graduates, trainers transitioning from traditional methods, and trainers who feel they need a refresher. We also have private coaching plans for trainers looking to expand their dog business savvy, increase their revenue, serve more clients, and delve into new areas in their field.
Your experience includes:
- Learning dog body language and behavior ranging from basic to more advanced. If you are a current dog trainer, you will have the opportunity to review client videos with a staff trainer.
- Advanced dog trainer handling skills – dogs, equipment, and clients
- Planning, creating, and developing classes and private
training curriculum - Teaching/co-teaching classe

- TAG Teach – how we teach the people
- Sharpening Skills and Mechanics
- Developing your business goals including a business plan and goal setting
- Auditing and assisting in classes and with private clients

Dog Trainer Schedule:
Thursdays 10A – 6P (with a 1-2 hour mid–day break)
Fridays 10A – 6P (with a 1-2 hour mid-day break)
Saturdays 10A – 6P (with a 1-2 hour mid-day break)
Additional or alternate hours to be determined by your schedule and program choice.
NOTE: Some exceptions or make-up classes may be made for scheduling conflicts, but are not guaranteed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior dog handling experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Parent or Guardian consent is required for students under 18 years of age
NOTE: All qualifications are open to discussion during your phone interview. Exceptions will be considered, but are not guaranteed.
Requirements during the program include, but are not limited to:
- Observing and assisting group classes and private consultations
- Volunteer work with a shelter or rescue group
- Observing and assisting in seminars and workshops
- Required reading and practicum
- Quizzes, practical tests, and video evaluations
Materials:
Your tuition includes all of your materials including an R.M.R.D.T.A. tote to carry all of your books and supplies. You will receive textbooks, clickers, an R.M.R.D.T.A. t-shirt, and your Academy binder. Please note that lost materials must be replaced at the student’s expense.
Tuition*:
Once we receive your application, we will review it and schedule a phone interview. Tuition rates are as follows:
6–Month Program – $5600
12–Month Program – $11,000
*There is a one-time, non-refundable application fee of $50 required with your application.
Rescues and shelters: enroll 2 or more animal-control officers, volunteers, or other animal staff at a time and receive special pricing.
NOTE: We accept Paypal and most major credit cards. We also offer payment plans when necessary.
